The vital charm of the Mullica River is its exquisite beauty with its extensive savanna marshes and high sandy banks. At 55 miles long, this river provides a principal drainage into the Atlantic Ocean. Its estuary on Great Bay is considered one of the least disturbed marine wetlands habitats in northeastern United States. Discovering deciduous trees, bushes and beaver dams, the Mullica River is now part of the Wild & Scenic River System of New Jersey and designated as a “Wild River”.

The upper Mullica River is twisty and narrow with a pre-historic flavor elevating your senses to appreciate the shear silence as a sanctuary. The experience can be described as gothic or primeval. With ones ability to have intimate contact with foliage growing on the banks and out over the water, there is an ease of paddling to this section. Downstream, the terrain opens and below Pleasant Mills, the Mullica River is tidal. As the Mullica River broadens you will uncover magnificent waterfront homes snuggled in the village of Sweetwater.
